Wedding fashion vocabulary

Wedding fashion is a very specific world. You will feel it as soon as you start a search for the wedding dress of your dream. Sellers and tailors will express themselves in completely incomprehensible words. Most of the terms used by fashion designers go beyond the vocabulary used in everyday life.  In order to understand them, and most importantly, that they understand you when you are choosing your dress, you will need a list of words and expressions related to the cut, shape of the neckline and other subtleties of styles and cuts.

Wedding dress styles

«Princess»

This style is also called "Ball gown". The main features of such a cut are  the fitted top, and the magnificent skirt which departs at once from a waist not adhering to thighs, as ball gowns. Princess dress is ideal for brides with a figure of "pear" or triangle. It will hide excessive corpulence of hips and emphasize the beauty of breasts and shoulders.

A-silhouette

This is a classic wedding dress that expands to the bottom, but unlike the "Princess" it slightly outlines the top of the hips. The silhouette of the dress resembles the letter "A".  This dress is especially suitable for girls with excessively wide hips.

Straight dress

It is also called as "Sheath". The bride's strength is limited to a vertical straight line going from chest to floor, or to the knees, depending on the length of the dress. Straight dress softly fits the figure, emphasizing a fine waist in a very modern minimalistic style.

«Mermaid»

Dress "Mermaid", or as it is also called "Fish tail", tightly fits the body from chest to knees, from where it spreads as a fan, resembling the tail of a fish or a mermaid. The mermaid dress will look especially beautiful on girls with an hourglass figure.

Empire dress

A characteristic feature of the Empire dress is the high waist, usually marked right under the chest.  The skirt falls plumb down with free flowing folds, like on Greek and Roman goddesses.

Neckline styles

Sweetheart

The Sweetheart neckline fits tightly around the bride's bust, lifts her chest and gives it the shape of a classic heart. Usually this décolleté also exposes the bride's shoulders.

V-neckline

The shape of such a neckline is clear from its name. This neckline is ideal to emphasize the breasts. Bt the way girls with small breasts can afford a much deeper neckline.

Square

It's a rectangular neckline with right angles.  Ideal for owners of large breasts and girls with round shapes.

Round neckline

This neckline looks like a square one, but instead of corners, he's got one semicircle.  The round neckline will suit girls of all types of figure, especially those with small breasts.

Illusion

The neckline illusion as if hides the upper part of the chest with a transparent fabric, often decorated with lace, and thus attracts even more attention. 

Boat

That neckline looks like a semicircular boat silhouette. It exposes the neck and shoulders. Well suited for girls with small breasts. However, it is contraindicated to the owners of wide sports shoulders.

Asymmetry

It's only one strapless style. Asymmetry will look good on the owners of beautiful wide shoulders.

Open back

It's a neckline on the back. It is especially suitable for those who do not want to expose their breasts, and prefers to emphasize their femininity in other ways.

Off-the-shoulders

It's a combination of sleeveles dress and sleeves that are lowered so that the shoulders are completely bare. Sleeves can be anything from symbolic "caps" to full long. It will look very good on beautiful shoulders, but not too wide.
